"the fox report" with jon scott starts now. ♪♪ ♪♪ jon: president biden pushing for massive increase in government spending as he lays out his 6 billion-dollar budget proposal for the 2020 three fiscal year but republicans are declaring it dead on arrival. good evening i'm jon scott and this is "the fox report." president biden's plan to invest in areas like if a structure public health and education would push federal spending to its highest level since world war ii. with rising concerns over inflation top republicans are

blasting a spending proposal as reckless and irresponsible. mark meredith is live in delaware where president biden is spending the holiday weekend. >> president biden unveiled his budget proposal on friday afternoon of a holiday weekend and the timing is certainly unusual. there is 20th mixed reaction. democrats democrats thrilled to see democrats thrilled as he was coming of the white house and republicans warning about the $6 billion spending plan. this is a lot of money and it takes a lot of time to go through everything but highlights include money to address the upper structure proposal under debate funding to boost safety net programs and the cdc in gun violence as well. it's memorial day weekend we thought it will would mean for the pentagon additional $735 billion in proposed spending money that would go to not only raise the pay-for u.s. troops that money to counter china on the pacific money to buy more fighter jets and address security challenges in space.

the president says what we had is what we buy you a donation. the proposal is just that a proposal and idea for congress parade ultimately lawmakers will be the final say in house and senate republicans are not thrilled with what the white house is doing out there. house minority leader kevin mccarthy writing the dire fiscal and economic consequences of his budget that this would place on our country is made worse by the radical priority. republicans are also increasingly speaking out against fears of rising inflation. traces are spiking on several different consumer staples and some lawmakers say they plan to make a clear that their constituents on who they think is to blame. >> inflation is too many dollars and too few goods and that's exactly what has happened. people come back to work because we are throwing so much money at them. >> a new "fox news poll" shows a slim majority of registered

voters 51% are feeling optimistic about the economy. compare that to 47% to tell us they are pessimistic. we will get a better idea of where things stand the job market and what employers are billing as the head did this next week as they get the jobs report for may. that's due on friday the president is expected to speak about that. we we'll hear from him tomorrow in an event in delaware marking memorial day. >> mark thank you. president biden is speaking out against a texas bill that puts new restrictions on certain voting methods. he calls it an assault on democracy. republican controlledrepublicans expected to pass the legislation and governor greg abbott has said he plans to sign it. turning now to the crisis of the southern border. or so say they caught one in 1300 migrants trying to cross to the u.s. yesterday alone. the biden administration is feeling the heat from critics over his plan to fast-track asylum cases involving families

by putting them in so-called dedicated dockets in cities. aishah hasnie is live in mission texas with more on that. reporter: good evening to you. this approach would essentially allow judges to speed up the process of moving along these asylum cases for families who are just now starting to cross the border. families like these. take a look at this newly obtained video by "fox news" from del real texas on friday. you can see an officer grabbing a baby as has dozens of migrants crossed the rio grande river and incredibly dangerous situation for them. not everyone is happy about this at dedicated docket. according to multiple reports some 60 immigration advocacy groups are complaining speeding up the asylum process will only result in denials and deportations. the groups are rather see the administration and title 42 altogether. the question though john is will these dockets be enough to handle the constant flow of

mind secretary of state anthony lincoln is set to make a trip to central america. on tuesday he will meet with several team leaders from different countries including mexico to talk about migration and that issue and that's happening while vice president kamala harris is in charge of getting to the bottom of the migration issue tackling the surgeon migration. she has not made her trip to central america or down here to visit the border. jon. jon: thank you. for more on the biden border crisis and president biden's record budget proposal as being a missouri congressman jason smith ranking republican on the house budget committee. you were at the border earlier this month and he made several trips there as i understand it. when you see the numbers of migrants who are coming across

the biden administration says the border is closed. >> yeah i will tell you jon the border is deftly not close. we were there over two weeks ago and more individuals have illegally crossed the southern border in january than the entire population of kansas city missouri. with the nooses and talking about is the individuals crossing and relinquishing themselves to border patrol are not just from mexico and central america. they are from the middle east, they are from asia and they are from europe. i saw a family of five from romania. it's absolutely unacceptable. the world knows the southern border is open and how you can get to be a resident underbite administration. jon: you vice president harris is in charge of fixing the problem why has she not visited? >> yeah preview know what when people don't show up for work they get fired. she is clearly not doing her

job. vice president harris should clearly be fired. it's been over 50 days since she has refused to show up the border and where's the president? is the president at the border? no. there's a crisis in the border and biden created that crisis than they are doing anything about it. jon: the president released his budget proposal late on friday, yesterday just ahead of the holiday weekend. normally that's when you dump the bad news in washington orden news that you don't want to get a lot of coverage. why do you think they released the budget proposal when they didn't? >> it's a does you how proud they are to veto their budget. they clearly don't want people to know everything that's inside of it. we have been going through the budget and i will tell you job as a budget shows an extreme disrespect for american

working-class families. under biden, his greater command and control over the lives and livelihoods of american citizens completely ignoring our massive government spending with americans pay more to put food on the table and gas in their cars and clothing on their backs. this is jon the latest budget ever in the history of united states. it proposes the largest expansion of government ever, $69 billion in spending in 10 years and some of the highest collection of taxes ever. it's $5 trillion in taxes, the highest tax burden in american history. in fact in increases taxes on low income and working-class families which joe biden said he wouldn't do. jon: your leader of the republicans in the house kevin mccarthy was talking to shannon hannity on thursday night about the president's ideas and the spending that's

underway right now. listen. c this is what everyone has ever warned us about that your debt becomes so large is more the 100% of gdp and there's no coming back from that. it sounds like venezuela or cuba. even obama called to tell him this is wrong and the way he's doing it is wrong. jon: the warriors the debt consumes -- the worries is the debt consumes all of gdp essentially. >> jon in this budget it explodes our debt. some of the most outrageous and unsustainable levels ever. $17 trillion in new debt. in fact just this year alone $3.7 trillion in the deficit just this year alone. the highest in american history. one thing we know about it is that this is the largest spending plan the largest budget in history but guess what?

international airport and airport officials say they expect to see their largest crowds here since the start of a pandemic particularly with american airlines expecting to see some 300,000 customers fly out to destinations around the country this holiday season. nationally the numbers continue to grow. airlines could see a 600% increase in volume this weekend compared to this time last year and according to aaa that's about a 2.5 million people traveling by plane over the memorial day weekend and for some that's a positive sign. admittedly the people we spoke to said it will take some time to get used to. >> i think it's nice being back here and knowing things are going back to normal. >> i feel a little more comfortable. i'm hoping that the airlines are taking precautions so we are

jon: everybody is safe after wild ride at six flags in san antonio texas. the poltergeist rollercoaster stopped mid-ride. it took a few uncomfortable hours but the san antonio fire department got all 100 people off. nobody is hurt. the ride will be close while it undergoes a full inspection. scott peterson the man convicted of murdering his pregnant wife in 2005 is trying to get a new trial. the california district attorney says she won't pursue a new

death penalty against him. christina coleman is live in los angeles with more on that. john yesterday prosecutors said they will not attempt to retry the penalty phase of scott peterson's trial for the death penalty today's equipment for the family of lacey and conner believe there's no doubt the defendant is guilty of the crime and its the defendant is deserving of the punishment of that. the family decided the processes too painful to endure once again. lacy was 27 years old and eight months pregnant on christmas eve of 2002 when she disappeared. her husband scott was later convicted of murdering her and their unborn child and sentenced to death in 2005 but last year the death penalty was thrown out by the court because observers were excluded after say -- however scott peterson may still

get a full new trial due to potential jury misconduct. as it turns out the juror from 2004 murder trial did not disclose that she had previously thought of a restraining order against someone him in connection with her own pregnancy and concern for her own unborn baby. so now a judge will decide if this qualifies as a juror misconduct and if it's enough to read try the entire case. scott peterson and his attorneys want him to maintain his innocence in his attorneys say they are very confident they can prove he is not guilty if they are allowed to submit more evidence in a new trial. hearing is scheduled for tuesday on the potential jury misconduct. the judge said she hopes to make a decision sometime this year. jon: christina coleman in los angeles thank you. president biden calling for a probe into the origins of coronavirus but is he doing enough to stand up to beijing? gordon chang on back, coming up.

collapse of china and the great u.s.-china at war. gordon it's great to have you on. you have seen the sort of 100-degree turn in the coverage of the coronavirus and we will get to some samples in a minute but what do you think is the reason that all of a sudden the media outlets are seriously considering the idea that the virus is the result of the leak from the wuhan lab? >> it's a great question john and i don't know the answer. i think it's just a tipping point because they are been so many disclosures. france's last saturday we had "the wall street journal" reporting researchers at the wuhan institute were hospitalized with covid-19 like symptoms in november of 2019 and i think this comes after china clearly skipped the world health organization in their january and february mission to wuhan. i think this has been building up for quite some time in the

story the journal last week i think was the one that pushed everything over the edge. jon: nicholas wade former science writer for "the new york times" and a prolific author really turned a lot of heads when he published a 10,000 word investigative essay a couple of weeks ago. here here's part of what it reads. titled the origin of covid opens pandora's box in wuhan and he says researchers at the u. wuhan were designed to make corona viruses infect human cells and this is exactly the kind of experiment from which is ours to like virus could ever emerge. they were not vaccinated in their study and working in minimal safety conditions of an escape of a virus would not be at all surprising. and all of china the pandemic row got on the doorstep of the wuhan institute the virus was well adapted to humans as

comeback from the pandemic in several industries are facing a major shortage of workers. one of them is vital to the other industries. trucking companies are having a hard time hiring drivers. mike emanuel explains. demand for truck drivers is huge but experts know there was a shortage and truck drivers before covid which is only gotten worse during the pandemic. the american trucking association estimates 60,000 truck drivers i needed to meet current demand nationwide. 1.1 million to meet the needs of the next decade. >> truck drivers do matter and they are the moving of the economy. the top job in 29 states as the truck driver but a shortage of drivers is likely to hit consumers in the wallet and fewer drivers make it more difficult to move goods to their

their increasing concerns about a new india variant spreading faster than other strains. 3398 new covid cases the highest figure in two months and a majority of those new cases are the india variant. so far vaccinations are helping to keep it under control. 59 billion had their first dose in the uk and to complete that vaccination program before cases rise further. >> we will do we can't to have people have both jabs. it's very important. the second thing is we monitor these new variants really really carefully to check the effectiveness of the vaccine. the duchess of cambridge received her vaccine today hoping that other young people will follow her example. restrictions are slowly easing.
